Orson Scott Card declared Persona non grata

On 29th November 2011 The Science Fiction Bookclub declared Mr Orson Scott Card Persona non grata and removed all records of our first official meeting where we discussed one of his works in protest at Mr Cards history of repeated homophobic comments and writings as well as advocating a church with a history of racist policies. No further works of Mr Card's will be discussed at future book club meetings nor will the group support films or other media inspired or based on Mr Card's works.

Persona non grata is based on a latin phrase which means "An unwelcome person", it is most often used in international diplomacy when a person is expelled from a country or other sovereign territory. [Wikipedia entry]

The Science Fiction Bookclub urges all its members and the public to boycott Mr Cards works in any form or at the very least buy them second hand.

Members with time to waste on this odious little man can read about him and his views here:

But to save you the bother here is a sample of his writing:

This applies also to the polity, the citizens at large. Laws against homosexual behaviour should remain on the books, not to be indiscriminately enforced against anyone who happens to be caught violating them, but to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behaviour cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society.
