Robert Harris’s Fatherland is one of the most successful alternate history novels ever published and is set in an alternative world where Hitler has won the Second World War. It is April 1964 and one week before Hitler’s 75th birthday and Xavier March, a detective of the Kriminalpolizei, is called out to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a lake near Berlin’s most prestigious suburb.

As March discovers the identity of the body, he uncovers signs of a conspiracy that could go to the very top of the German Reich. And, with the Gestapo just one step behind, March, together with an American journalist, is caught up in a race to discover and reveal the truth – a truth that has already killed, a truth that could topple governments, a truth that will change history.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a national event dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of The Holocaust. It was first held on the 27th January 2001 and has been held on the same date every year since. 27th January is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945, the date also chosen for the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and some other national Holocaust Memorial Days.

Unfortunately Your Glorious Leader ® only discovered this charity after 2012’s Memorial Day had passed and so the month of November was picked as it was in November 1938 that the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristallnacht) was carried out against the Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria.
